Royal Canadian Theatre Company’s next play in Surrey promises love, friendship and unforgettable moments, perfect for the whole family at the start of spring break.

A regional tour for The Miraculous Journey of Edward Tulane starts at Surrey Arts Centre’s Studio Theatre (March 13-15 weekend), followed by shows in Coquitlam and New Westminster.

Kerri Norris directs four actors playing 26 different characters and various musical instruments including Nicole DesLauriers (as The Traveler), Emma Geleynse (The Woman), Ryan Andrews (The Musician) and Rob Fawcett (The Man). The play, by Dwayne Hartford, is based on the book by Kate DiCamillo.

This two-hour show is billed as heartwarming and poetic. Use your imaginations to follow Edward Tulane, a porcelain rabbit, over a 20-year span as he learns the true meaning of love through loss, hardship and transformation,” says the website rctheatreco.com.

“Edward begins an extraordinary journey across years and landscapes, passing through the hands of various owners. Is love worth the risk? And how long does is take to learn to love?”

Audiences can bring their own favourite toy to the show to feel more immersed in the story.

Royal Canadian will stage three relaxed performances on tour including Saturday, March 14 in Surrey, with technical adjustments and ASL interpreters available. The company’s next season will be announced on opening night (March 13) with mini-cupcakes for all.

The four show times in Surrey are 7:30 p.m. March 13, 2 p.m. March 14, 6:30 p.m. March 14 and 2 p.m. March 15. Click purchase.surrey.ca for tickets or call 604-501-5580.
