TOKYO – Japanese boxing superstar Naoya Inoue will put his undisputed super bantamweight world title on the line against compatriot Junto Nakatani at Tokyo Dome on May 2, the two undefeated fighters announced Friday.

The 32-year-old Inoue, known as “The Monster,” said he would “show the difference in our levels and make sure I win” during a press conference in Tokyo to announce the highly anticipated match between two of the world’s top pound-for-pound boxers.

“Don’t miss the historic moment when the two of us step into the ring,” Inoue said.

The 28-year-old Nakatani said, “I’m already switched on. I’m coming to take the title.”

The fight will be the three-weight world champion’s second since moving up to super bantamweight in anticipation of challenging Inoue.

Four-division champion Inoue has won all 32 of his fights, 27 by knockout, and is on a 27-match winning streak in world title bouts.

Nakatani is also unbeaten at 32-0, with 24 wins by KO.

Inoue previously fought at Tokyo Dome in May 2024, knocking out Mexico’s Luis Nery.
