As spring weather returns, golfers will be heading back to courses, and there’s one in Victoria that claims to have the best hot dog in the city.

When you hit the links at Highland Pacific, your game can go one of two ways, but if you’re a duffer looking for a sure thing, head to the snack shack, nestled nicely between two nines.

“The hot dogs, they are world famous here,” says Ruth Saunders, who runs the grill.

While they also serve a host of sandwiches and snacks, it’s the dog at the turn that golfers can’t turn down.

“They’ll go hit their ball at the first tee and come back and get another one, cause they’re so good,” Saunders said.

The secret is a homemade garlic butter that goes on the grill with the glizzies. That same butter is slathered on the Cobs Bread buns, before they’re grilled to golden brown.

“We hear it from everyone, and admittedly I’ll say so too, it is the best hot dog in town,” Callum Ashby, head golf professional at Highland Pacific.

Highland Pacific sells itself as the friendliest golf course in Victoria, but it may also be the foodiest.

Ashby even hosts an Instagram series called Cooking with Cal, but you can find the real cooks up at the Range Cafe serving up pre- and post-round faves.

“We’re getting a smoker so we might get some smoked meats, pulled pork and brisket and stuff,” said Dane Gildin, manager of the cafe.

The kitchen rattles off everything from breakfast sandwiches to fish tacos, but there’s still one item that remains top dog.

Highland Pacific Golf Course can be found at 450 Creed Rd, Victoria.
