Jimmy Fallon’s Thursday night visit to The Late Show with Stephen Colbert is proving to be the gift that keeps on giving when it comes to bonus web content.
After releasing an extended version of Fallon’s first-ever sit-down with Colbert early Friday morning, the show has now shared additional behind-the-scenes footage of the late-night duo—including another song, a round of dueling impressions, and a joke aimed squarely at Colbert’s corporate bosses.
The newly released clip begins where Thursday’s broadcast left off, with Fallon still standing on Colbert’s desk after serenading the host with a rendition of “My Way.” That performance made it to air. What viewers didn’t see was what happened next.
With Fallon perched atop the desk, the two launch into an impromptu rendition of “The Star-Spangled Banner,” preceded by a bit of good-natured ribbing between the longtime friends.
“This is a bit that I’ve always wanted to do with you,” Fallon begins.
“‘Bit’ is a strong word,” Colbert replies.
“Sorry—not a bit,” Fallon backtracks. “Almost like a party trick that you do.”
“It’s not a party trick,” Colbert shoots back. “It’s an act of pure patriotism.”
“That’s what I meant to say,” Fallon responds, before Colbert twists the knife: “Yeah. I love that bit where you love your wife. That’s hilarious.”
Later in the clip, Fallon jokes about the uncertain future of the Ed Sullivan Theater itself.
“It’s going to make one hell of a Spirit Halloween,” he quips, before adding a mock apology to Colbert: “I’m so sorry you’re being replaced. I can’t wait for the next show—the Kid Rock–My Pillow Guy NewsHour.”
The five-minute video also features Fallon and Colbert trading Johnny Carson impressions, along with more playful ribbing directed at Fallon when he asks Colbert if he’s ever seen his version of The Tonight Show.
