The hope remains. Still a long shot, but it’s there. After a great game against the Calgary Flames, which they managed to survive a hot goalie, the Sens find themselves even closer to a playoff spot. They find themselves sitting at a 46% playoff chance, and with the Boston Bruins winning this afternoon, they will most definitely need a win to keep these odds up.

The Sens are not as bad as their standings, and if they have shown us anything is that they deserve to be in the playoffs, even if they just sneak in. Linus Ullmark seems to be finding his confidence and joy on this team, and it is making all the difference during the games.

There were some concerns about the trade deadline, and while some fans had wanted some big moves, I’m glad they held off for now. The Sens main issues won’t be fixed with a deadline trade, and all we’d risk is messing with a team that seems to be focused on putting a run together.

Speaking of trades, the one addition the Sens did make was acquiring Warren Foegele from the Los Angeles Kings. Foegele is a former 20-goal scorer hoping to find his spark here in Ottawa, and additional scoring depth for this team is never a bad thing, so here’s hoping this move makes an offensive difference. He also has former connections with Michael Amadio, Dylan Cozens and Jordan Spence, which should help him settle in better.

Game NotesIt’s nice to see the Sens continue to play Ullmark consistently, not that he has shown any needs for a break but this team’s management may have ideas about proving Reimer’s signing.I’m excited to see what Foegele brings to the team but we need to make sure we keep our expectations low, he’s not a player who will change the direction of the team. The Sens did a good job drawing the penalties instead of getting them last game but they still need to make sure they focus on converting on these power plays. It was a PP goal that saved them last game afterall. The Kraken are holding the final wildcard spot in the West so they will be equally desperate if not more. The Sens need to get ahead early and stay focused all game.Today is my birthday and I refuse to believe they will make me sad and lose tonight. Here’s hoping for birthday goals from Stützle, Pinto and Giroux! It’s a late one today, you can catch the game at 10pm EST on Sportsnet, TVAS or listen live at TSN 1200.
