Second person sustained severe non-life-threatening injuries and was brought to the hospital for treatment; highway remains closed near Smooth Rock Falls
One person was killed in a multi-vehicle crash this morning, said OPP of an incident that has stopped traffic on Highway 11.Â
The crash happened around 5:30 a.m. today (March 7) on Highway 11 between Red Pine Road and Lookout Road in Smooth Rock Falls.Â
Five vehicles were directly involved in the crash, and three additional vehicles were involved in a secondary collision in the area, said police.Â
One person was pronounced dead at the scene. A second person sustained severe non-life-threatening injuries and was brought to the hospital for treatment.
Highway 11 remains closed, with it now extending from Cochrane to Nipigon. Highway 655 is also still closed from the Kidd mine road to Highway 11.
Commercial motor vehicles are not being allowed access to Highway 11 north of North Bay. Passenger vehicles are still permitted past North Bay.
The crash investigation is ongoing and includes the OPP’s traffic incident management and enforcement (TIME) team and the Ontario coroner’s office.Â
