Think you have what it takes to lead the best fans in the CFL? The Saskatchewan Roughriders are searching for their next Gainer the Gopher!
The job description states the Roughriders, “are seeking an engaging, energetic, and outgoing individual” that will fill the role of connecting with people and spreading rider pride through positive interactions. Duties include more than just wearing the suit and bringing Gainer’s personality to light. Candidates will need to be quick learners who mesh with brand consistency, be able to interact non-verbally with high fives, hugs, dances, and picture poses, most of the time performing in front of packed Mosaic Stadium crowds.
Non-gameday appearances are also part of the fun, Gainer often attending Roughrider community events all around the province. Other off-the field roles for Gainer include working collaboratively with gameday staff and Roughriders marketing team members, while also showing initiative and independence.
Applications will need to include a 3-5-minute-long audition video to get a sense of the applicants’ personality, performance style, and vibe on how they would be as the iconic gopher. If you want to wear a mascot costume to get your true performance across that is fine, anything to showcase character.

Gainer is one of the most recognizable mascots in the province. For anyone who doesn’t know, Gainer’s name is actually an anagram of the Roughriders home city Regina.
