Natalie Wilkie is the winner of Canada’s first gold medal at the Milan Cortina Paralympics.

She finished first in the women’s standing biathlon competition at Tesero Cross-Country Skiing Stadium.

Wilkie, from Salmon Arm, B.C., was over 30 seconds ahead of her nearest competitor, China’s Zhao Zhiqing.

The Canadian flag-bearer had a time of 33 minutes 1.8 seconds.
