Manitobans are being encouraged to use caution when travelling as a strong weather system brings freezing rain to a large section of southern Manitoba.

Environment Canada issued a yellow freezing rain warning shortly after 5:30 p.m., saying freezing rain is expected across the region.

The warning covers areas from Portage la Prairie to Beausejour, including the city of Winnipeg

Weather

Patchy freezing rain is expected throughout the evening over the Red River Valley. It is expected to turn to snow later in the night.

Roads and walkways will likely become icy and slippery, and icy surfaces could be difficult to detect.

Environment Canada is encouraging Manitobans to be very careful if walking or driving.

The system is expected to move out of the province by morning.
