More than 1,300 homes and businesses are still in the dark after an outage impacted some 6,500 customers in Brampton.

The outage started around 2 p.m. in the area of McLaughlin Road and Potters Wheel Gate, Alectra said on Monday.

The utility provider initially reported 6,520 businesses and homes were affected, but said in an update shortly after 3 p.m. that 1,352 customers were still in the dark.

Alectra said the outage was caused by an “equipment failure,” and that repair crews are investigating.

Full service restoration could take until 7 p.m., Alectra says.

More than 3,300 homes and businesses in Mississauga were without power on Saturday in the area of Hurontario Street and Mavis Road.

Alectra said last month that some recent outages in York Region, particularly in Vaughan, and Peel Region are related to “salt and other de-icing products used on roads” due to the long stretch of cold and snowy weather in January and February.
