Durham police are searching for four suspects who they say are responsible for at least 20 break-and-enters across the town of Whitby since last year.

In a release on Monday, police said between Nov. 2025 and Feb. 2026, an investigation called “Project Sonoma” was launched to target a “small organized crime group.”

Police said investigators believed there were four men involved in the group, who would enter homes by smashing rear sliding glass doors and then target the master bedroom for high-value items.

Ion Dulceanu, 25, from Toronto; Madalin-Florin Moldoveanu, 31, from Toronto; Ionel Dumitru, 52, from Toronto; and Victor Duduianu, 55, from Oshawa, are all wanted for 20 counts of break-and-enter.

The four men are also facing charges for similar offences from several other police services in the GTA, police said.

Moldoveanu, Dulceanu, and Duduianu are facing at least 21 charges with Halton police and at least 39 charges with Toronto police, while Dumitru and Duduianu are facing at least six charges with York police. The charges have not been tested in court.

Investigators are urging the men to contact counsel and turn themselves in to police.

“Anyone who is found to be assisting these suspects to evade police is guilty of an offence under the Criminal Code of Canada and will be prosecuted to the full extent,” police said.

Anyone with information is asked to contact police at 1-888-579-1520, ext. 1832, or Crime Stoppers anonymously.
