Environment Canada is cautioning residents for the possibility of ‘significant rainfall’ this week.

The national weather agency issued a special weather statement Monday afternoon for Windsor, Chatham, Sarnia and most of southern Ontario.

The notice says rainfall amounts between 20 mm and 40 mm could fall beginning Tuesday evening into Wednesday.

Higher amounts are possible in areas that see thunderstorms.

“The saturated or frozen ground will have little ability to absorb this rainfall,” Environment Canada said.

Officials are linking the possibility of increased rainfall to a series of low pressure systems.

The Essex Region Conservation Authority has issued a watershed conditions statement, warning the amount of rainfall could lead cause ponding and small waterways to rise. But, the amount of water isn’t enough to trigger a flood watch.
