Toronto could see a “significant” amount of rain this week with potential flooding in low lying areas, Environment Canada says.
The federal weather agency issued a special weather statement for Toronto on Monday afternoon, calling for 20 to 40 millimetres of rain.
The rain is expected to begin Tuesday night and continue through Wednesday. Higher amounts of rain are possible in areas that receive thunderstorms, the federal weather agency said.
“The saturated or frozen ground will have little ability to absorb this rainfall,” Environment Canada said in the statement.
According to the forecast, a series of low-pressure systems will lead to the rainfall across parts of southern Ontario.
“Heavy downpours may cause flash floods and water pooling on roads. Localized flooding in low-lying areas is possible,” Environment Canada said.
The federal weather agency said it may issue rainfall warnings for some areas as the low pressure systems get closer.
