Residents in a Brampton neighbourhood can expect to see an increased police presence in the area following a shooting on Monday.

“To the residents of this neighbourhood and across Peel, every single shooting or nay acts of violence are taken very seriously and will not be tolerated,” Peel Regional Police Const. Manny Khatra said in an update about the shooting on Monday. “It is totally unacceptable to have gunfire echoing through our streets, or the safety of our community compromised.”

Shots rang out in the area of Spadina Road and Royal Orchard Drive in Brampton around 2:40 a.m. on Monday, Peel Regional Police say.

And while no physician injuries were reported, police say two residences and “multiple” vehicles were hit by bullets.

Khatra said officers “have increased our presence in this area” following the incidents, and said safety is “our top priority.”

New details have also been released about the possible get-away vehicle used in the incident.

Police initially said the suspects fled the scene in a lighter-coloured four-door sedan, and said in an update that the vehcile may have been a four-door Honda Civic.

Investigators haven’t commented on a possible motive, but the shooting resembles ongoing cases of extortion which have plagued police and Brampton residents for years.
