A traffic stop in the central Ontario city of Barrie has led to several charges against a Brampton man and his passenger.

Barrie Police say an officer was conducting a routine traffic enforcement in the downtown area on March 3 when a vehicle with two occupants was stopped.

“A request of the driver’s identification revealed he was wanted on an outstanding warrant issued by another police service. He was subsequently arrested without incident,” said police. “The officer also learned the driver and female passenger were bound by probation orders with strict conditions related to the possession of identification and financial instruments.”

Through the investigation, multiple credit and debit payment terminals, numerous cards and identification documents not belonging to either occupant, prepaid financial cards, suspected break-in instruments, a quantity of suspected methamphetamine, and several $100 bills in Canadian currency were seized.

As a result, the driver – a 43-year-old man from Brampton – and the passenger – a 40-year-old woman from Scarborough – were arrested and charged with several offences, including:

Possession of methamphetamine
Possession of a substance for the purpose of trafficking
Possession of property obtained by crime under $5,000
Possession of identity documents
Possession of break-in instruments
Fail to comply with probation and release orders

Their names have not been released by the police.
