Passing out behind the wheel has led police to charge a Brampton driver who allegedly had a blood alcohol concentration over twice the legal limit for alcohol.

The arrest happened on March 3 while officers with the Caledon detachment were on a patrol in the area of Mayfield Road and Airport Road.

That’s where the officers spotted an idling vehicle at a nearby business with an occupant asleep behind the wheel.

Officers approached the sleeping driver and say an investigation revealed the suspect was impaired by alcohol.

The driver allegedly had a blood alcohol concentration over twice the legal limit.

The 30-year-old driver from Brampton was charged with operation while impaired – alcohol, and operation while impaired – blood alcohol concentration (80 plus).

The accused is scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice in Orangeville at a later date to answer to their charges.

Police say the vehicle was impounded for seven days, and the driver’s licence was suspended for a period of 90 days.

Anyone who witnesses a suspected impaired or unsafe driver can report it to police by calling 911 when it is safe to do so. Anonymous tips may also be provided to Crime Stoppers by calling 1-800-222-8477 or visiting www.ontariocrimestoppers.ca.

When you contact Crime Stoppers you stay anonymous, never have to testify, and could receive a $2,000 reward.
