History

SAN DIEGO, Calif. – The Concordia University Irvine women’s tennis team fought hard against another PacWest opponent Point Loma on Tuesday showing resilience and determination in both singles and doubles play.

At the top of the lineup Bryn Johnson delivered a competitive performance at No. 1 singles. Johnson pushed her opponent in both sets narrowly falling 7–5 and 6–4 in one of the tightest matches of the day.

 

CUI earned a strong highlight in the No. 2 slot where Kristyna Dvorakova secured the Golden Eagles victory. Dvorakova opened with a solid 6–4 first set before battling through a challenging second set to 6–7 and secured the win in a 10-5 in a super tiebreak.

 

The Eagles also saw action from Keona Gutierrez Dearmond at No. 3 while Mikayla Avila, Ashley Aziz, and Mianna Robinson competed in slots four through six. Each athlete continued to fight through their matches but ultimately dropped the matches 6-0 and 6-0.

 

In doubles action the Golden Eagles opened the day with Gutierrez Dearmond and Johnson competing at the No. 1 position. The duo was locked in a competitive start before the match concluded with the score tied at 2–2. At No. 2 doubles Aziz and Avila faced a tough Point Loma pairing while Robinson and Dvorakova represented CUI in the third slot. Slots two and three in doubles finished the match 6-0.

 

The Golden Eagles will be on the road the next two matches as they take on Hawai’i Pacific in Santa Barbara at Westmont Friday Mar. 13 with an 11 a.m. start time. Saturday Mar. 14 will be played at Claremont against Claremont-Mudd-Scripps at 2 p.m.
