Washington (EFE).- The WNBA and the union representing the players surpassed this Wednesday the deadline imposed by the league to implement a new collective agreement without having reached an agreement.

The league and the union negotiated against the clock in a marathon session that lasted for about ten hours, until well into the early hours of this Wednesday.
But the parties failed to reach an agreement by the deadline (March 10) imposed by the WNBA to avoid affecting the 2026 schedule, with the league start scheduled for May 8.
“It’s complex. We are working to reach an agreement where everyone wins (…) So we are working hard on it and we still have work to do,” assured the commissioner of the WNBA, Cathy Engelbert, in statements to US media.

For her part, the executive director of the players’ union (WNBPA), lawyer Terri Jackson, stated that the negotiations are now “on the right track.”
