LETTER: Is Surrey embracing religion in schools?

Editor,
I was delighted to see that our secular, inclusive Surrey school board is now allowing religious celebrations across the district at local high schools. The news that Johnson Heights students get to “embrace” the Muslim Ramadan surely means that next year the Christian kids can observe Lent, joined by their Muslim schoolmates. And the Jewish kids can now observe Hanukkah.
Who knows, maybe we’ll even see “Christmas Concerts” return to displace the “Winter Festival” events so ubiquitous these days. Congratulations Surrey school board for realizing religion actually plays a key role in kids’ lives.
