A Brampton man already banned from several fitness clubs for theft is facing new charges after an arrest at a Planet Fitness gym in Bowmanville last month.

Durham Police responded to a ‘suspicious person call’ at the Planet Fitness on Highway 2 in Bowmanville on Feb. 5.

Police said the suspect was seen going through several gym bags and lockers in a change room and apprehended by an off-duty officer. Officers arrived on scene and took the man into custody. The suspect was later confirmed to match the description of someone banned from several other fitness clubs for thefts.

Ravneet Gandhi, 18, is charged with three counts of theft, possession of stolen property (three counts), credit card theft and two counts using a stolen credit card, possession of counterfeit currency and stolen identification and drug possession (cocaine).

He was held for a bail hearing.

Anyone with cell phone, dash cam, surveillance footage or information about this incident is asked to contact D/Cst. Cronin of the East Division Criminal Investigations Branch at 1-888-579-1520 ext. 1649.
