The Toronto Zoo is asking for the public’s help naming a baby giraffe.

The Toronto Zoo has narrowed the list down to five possible names for its baby Masai giraffe and members of the public can now have their say on what to call the zoo’s newest addition.

The zoo is running an online poll until March 23, allowing people to cast their ballot for the name of its “newest and tallest arrival.”

“We are so grateful for our partners at the Kenyan Honorary Consulate in Toronto for their suggestions and support in selecting name options for this beautiful giraffe calf,” a news release issued by the zoo this week said.

The names include Binti, meaning daughter, Imara, meaning strong, firm, and resilient, Neema, which stands for grace, Nyota, meaning star, and Sanaa, which represents beauty and art.

“Beginning this Friday, March 13th, Toronto Zoo guests can visit the indoor giraffe habitat in the Africa Savanna between 11a.m. and 3 p.m. for their first chance to see the six-foot-four inch baby giraffe up close,” the news release read.

“The timing couldn’t be better, as this schedule will continue right through March Break, giving families plenty of opportunities to stop by and say hello.”

The giraffe’s arrival comes just months after her father, Kiko, died from cardiac failure linked with acute muscle exertion following an incident on New Year’s Day.

The Zoo previously confirmed that the 13-year-old giraffe’s head became trapped in a small gap between the slide/shift door and a vertical post as the door was opening.
