Taysup back in court for breaching probation in Surrey

The man who allegedly chased a woman in Ocean Park in 2024 and threatened physical harm was back in court Thursday (March 12) in connection with allegedly breaching his probation.

Ricki Randall Taysup’s breach of probation charges stemmed from incidents in Surrey in January and February.

Taysup was initially charged on July 7, 2024, in connection with an incident the day before, where a woman reported that a man had chased her and threatened to harm her physically.

The trial on that charge had been initially scheduled for October 2024, but was postponed, and the defendant remained in custody.

He has been convicted four times of breaching his probation and has had several charges stayed, including the threats charge.

(This means that the Crown has dropped the charges but may restart the prosecution within a set timeframe: one year since the offence for serious charges and six months for less serious charges. “If the prosecution is not re-started within those time frames, the matter is over,” noted a post on gov.bc.ca about criminal decisions.)

Taysup was under a 12 month probation order from a previous charge, which includes not being in South Surrey, which court documents state is bordered by 152 Street on the east, King George Boulevard on the north and Marine Drive on the south.

The Surrey Now-Leader has reached out to the court registry to see if he is still restricted from going to South Surrey.

Taysup is currently in custody until his next court appearance is scheduled for March 17 at Surrey provincial court house.
