With fewer than 100 days to go until FIFA World Cup matches kick off in Vancouver, officials in Surrey announced last week that the city will host free public watch parties.

Mayor Brenda Locke announced three fan zones where fans can watch matches for free: Surrey Civic Plaza, the Cloverdale Agriplex, and South Surrey Athletic Park.

“We’re proud to offer Surrey Soccer Fan Zones – free, safe, and welcoming spaces where families can come together to enjoy FIFA World Cup 26TM,” said Mayor Brenda Locke. “By providing these accessible, no-cost events, we’re helping families enjoy the games, cheer on their favourite teams, and make summer memories together.”

The Cloverdale Agriplex Fan Zone will serve as an indoor viewing space, while the Civic Plaza and South Surrey Athletic Park will be outdoors with tented seating areas to provide shade.

The City of Surrey added that “additional locations may be announced leading up to the start of the tournament”.

Each public viewing zone will feature live match broadcasts on large screens, live entertainment, community-led soccer activities, food trucks, and beer gardens.

The official launch of Surrey’s Soccer Fan Zones will take place on June 12th at Surrey Civic Plaza, as Canada’s men’s national team kicks off in Toronto against an opponent yet to be determined.

Team Canada takes on Qatar at BC Place on June 18th.
