MADISON, Wis. – The No. 30 Wisconsin men’s tennis team (11-2, 2-1 Big Ten) added another sweep to its resume, defeating No. 44 Northwestern (13-5, 1-2 Big Ten) 4-0 on Friday night. The Badgers earned a hard-fought doubles point before cruising to straight set victories at No. 1, No. 2 and No. 4 singles to secure their seventh sweep of the spring.Â
UW’s partnership of Matthew Fullerton and Patrik Meszaros dominated at No. 3 doubles, securing a 6-1 victory over Northwestern’s duo to start the evening. At No. 2 doubles, the new partnership of Edouard Aubert and Tomas Zlatohlavek earned their first victory together with a 6-4 win over Mahjoob and Schiffman, securing the 1-0 lead for Wisconsin.
The energy at Nielsen Tennis Stadium was high going into singles play. The Badgers fed off the crowd, earning first set victories on every court. Meszaros collected Wisconsin’s second team point, defeating Northwestern’s Mahjoob 6-3, 6-2Â at No. 2 singles. Michael Minasyan followed close behind with a straight set victory of his own at No. 1 singles.Â
Sophomore Ferdinand Kloesters clinched the match with a 6-1, 6-4 victory over Northwestern’s Miller at No. 4 singles.
Wisconsin improves to 8-0 at home and 11-2 overall. The win over Northwestern was UW’s first since 2019.Â
