Developer fined $44K

The developer of a West Vancouver home must pay a $44,294 penalty after a WorkSafeBC inspection found dangerous working conditions on their job site.
According to a report from the agency, an inspector visited Postle Construction’s project in November 2025 and found a missing midrail on a temporary guardrail system, an open-sided stairway to the main office without a required midrail, and unguarded drop-offs greater than 1.2 metres.
Some of the guardrails “were not designed by a professional engineer,” an inspection report states.
The size of the penalty is typically based on the size of the employer’s payroll, the nature of the infraction and whether the employer has been caught with similar violations in the recent past. These were repeated violations for the prime contractor, according to WorkSafeBC.
A follow-up inspection in January found Postle Construction had complied with all of WorkSafeBC’s previous orders to make the job site safe again.
The developer has requested a formal review of the decision, according to WorkSafeBC.
Falls accounted for more than 44,000 injuries and claims for WorkSafeBC from 2015 to 2024, the agency says.
