Ottawa police say a child was taken to hospital after a collision in Barrhaven Thursday afternoon.
Police and paramedics said the they were called to Flagstaff Drive, near St. Juan Diego Catholic Elementary School at around 3:30 p.m.
Paramedics said they treated a child who was in “serious condition.” Police said the injuries were non-life-threatening.
On Saturday morning, police said no charges have been laid.
Barrhaven West Coun. David Hill said in a social media post he is “committed” to addressing safety concerns along that stretch of road.
Hill said his office is working with city staff to install a three way stop at Apolune Street and Flagstaff Drive to help calm traffic. He also mentioned trying to have a traffic guard hired for the intersection adjacent to the school.
Hill’s post added that the city approved the use of flex stakes on Flagstaff Drive, but those are usually installed after the spring thaw, and were not on the road when the collision happened.
“I wish I could reverse what happened, but I will do everything in my power to ensure the safety measures I outlined above are installed as soon as physically possible,” he wrote.
A petition to implement traffic calming measures near the school has over 300 signatures.
