Crankworx Rotorua wrapped up with the dual slalom showdown at Skyline Rotorua.

While Australian Ryan Gilchrist ultimately took the win, Canadian riders had impressive results.

Canada’s Tegan Cruz powered his way to second place while fellow Canadian Dane Jewett captured the bronze medal, putting two Canadians on the men’s podium.

Cruz continues strong Crankworx run

Cruz’s podium finish in dual slalom capped an impressive week for the Pemberton, B.C. racer.

Earlier in the festival, Cruz opened Crankworx with a third place finish in the Air DH. Cruz joined Gilchrist and American Richie Rude on the podium.

By the time dual slalom rolled around on Sunday evening, Cruz had again fought his way through a stacked bracket to reach the final.

In the gold medal match he faced Gilchrist, the two-time King of Crankworx.

Cruz attacked the course with speed and aggressive lines through the berms. In the end, the Australian built enough of a gap to claim victory by 0.714 seconds, leaving Cruz with the silver medal and another standout result.

Jewett caps amazing week

Earlier in the week the Canadian Jewett landed on the podium in the Specialized Kārearea Downhill, finishing second behind Australian Luke Meier-Smith.

Jewett entered the race with momentum after qualifying second in seeding.

Dropping into the course ahead of the final rider, the Giant Factory Off-Road Team racer laid down a time of 3:01.080, taking over the hot seat with an aggressive run that saw him pedalling in the air and pushing speed through every section.

His time ultimately held for second place, only falling to Meier-Smith’s winning run of 2:59.445.

Jewett carried that momentum into the dual slalom finals, where he defeated Rude in the bronze medal matchup to secure his best result yet in the discipline.

Canadians in the overall

With the podium finishes for both Cruz and Jewett, they end up high on the overall King of Crankworx titles. Tegan Cruz is in an impressive second place overall behind Ryan Gilchrist. Jewett is now 8th overall.

Rotorua delivers another classic festival

Across five days the festival delivered everything from massive tricks at the Crankworx Slopestyle in Memory of McGazza to high-speed downhill racing and pump track battles.

With Rotorua now in the books, the Crankworx World Tour heads toward its biggest stop of the year. We’re going to have to wait patiently for the next stop on the tour: Crankworx Whistler in late July.
