While the status of Carson Benge in the Opening Day lineup is awaiting confirmation, there’s a bigger star who’s facing some uncertainty for a role on Opening Day. Fortunately, things are trending in the right direction.
As Anthony DiComo of MLB.com reports, the Mets got some great news as Francisco Lindor, coming off hamate bone surgery, is in the Mets lineup for the first time, as his recovery has gone well thus far.
Mets get great news as Francisco Lindor is back in lineup
“News: Francisco Lindor is in the Mets’ lineup today, leading off and playing shortstop,” DiComo reports. “His first Grapefruit League action since surgery.”

Getting Lindor back is huge for the Mets. This hamate bone injury could’ve held him out of the beginning of the year, though he likely wouldn’t have missed much time.
However, based on Lindor being in the lineup on March 15th, with 11 days to go until Opening Day against the Pittsburgh Pirates, the Mets’ superstar appears to be progressing nicely to earn a chance to start for the Mets at the beginning of the year.
The 32-year-old shortstop is back in the lineup and back in the field as he ramps up his involvement for the Mets. If all goes well, he would likely be in store to start Opening Day for the Mets against the Pirates.

Coming off his first All-Star season for the Mets and a 160-game season where he hit .267 with an .811 OPS, Lindor is primed for another strong year in 2026.
He’s back in the lineup for the Mets’ matchup against the Toronto Blue Jays on March 15th, 11 days before Opening Day. While he’s not a lock just yet, being in the lineup now is a very good sign that Lindor will be ready to go once the regular season begins.
