The newest round of Edmonton Oilers news points toward the team giving up on Tristan Jarry moving forward this season.
Edmonton Oilers news points towards the goalie controversy having hit a new level. The team has had mixed results from in-season acquisition Tristan Jarry, with waiver pickup Connor Ingram showing a much higher upside.
Now, the Oilers have essentially given up on Jarry as their starting goaltender moving forward, giving Ingram the “starter” designation.
In a media availability on Sunday, Oilers coach Kris Knoblauch addressed the situation. He made it clear the team was going with the hot hand, pointing to Ingram as getting the lion’s share of the starts until otherwise determined.
“Right now, Connor [Ingram] is our starting goalie; he will get the majority of the starts as of now until something changes.”

The comments have hit like a ton of bricks on Oilers news. The whole point of trading for Jarry was to have a reliable goalie in the way that Stuart Skinner was unable to perform. Skinner has gone on to thrive in Pittsburgh, while Jarry has struggled significantly in Edmonton.
In contrast, Ingram, whom the Utah Mammoth placed on waivers earlier this season, has emerged as the team’s best goalie. In hindsight, the club could have avoided the entire situation by keeping Skinner and Ingram.
However, Oilers news at the time pointed towards the organization wanting to make a major shakeup in the crease. They did so, but it almost instantly backfired on them.
Ingram Making Major Oilers News
Connor Ingram, meanwhile, has been making major Oilers news. His run-in last week with Colorado Avalanche star Nathan MacKinnon caused quite a stir.
The fear following the incident was that Ingram might miss an extended period with a significant injury. Fortunately, that was not the case. Ingram made it back just fine and has continued to play well for Edmonton.
That’s why the latest Oilers news, as alarming as it seems, should give fans some comfort. At least, there’s one goalie in the organization the team can rely on for the foreseeable future. Of course, there’s the matter of the playoffs. That situation is something the club will need to figure out in the coming weeks. With about five weeks left in the season, the Oilers cannot afford to head into the postseason trying to figure things out in goal.
Edmonton Facing Uncertainty as Season Winds Down
Oilers news at this point in the season should be about the team gearing up for the playoffs. Instead, the talk is about the ongoing uncertainty within the organization.
The goaltending had apparently been solved when the Oilers traded for Jarry back on December 12. However, Jarry has missed time on a couple of occasions this season, raising more questions than answers for the club.
That’s why Oilers news will likely feature the seemingly unending dilemma that is Edmonton’s goaltending situation. Perhaps Ingram can step up and be that guy to carry the Oilers through another prolonged playoff run.
However, it remains unclear if that will be the case. One thing is certain, though, Edmonton’s situation in the crease is far from a strength at this point.
