The Philadelphia Eagles have built a reputation for finding studs in free agency at the right price, especially when it comes to players looking to reestablish or fix their market value.

Their latest move involving Tariq Woolen has caught the attention of many for just that reason.

Philadelphia signed Woolen on a one-year deal, a move that makes sense for both sides. The talented corner previously made a name for himself with the Seattle Seahawks, but he also struggled a bit last season.

Now, he’ll have the opportunity to prove himself again in a new environment that many believe is ideal for a bounce-back season.

Among those hyping up the move was ESPN insider Adam Schefter, who believes Woolen’s decision to sign a short-term deal in Philadelphia could end up paying off in a big way.

In Woolen’s case, the Eagles may provide exactly that opportunity to get paid next offseason.

Philadelphia’s defense has been one of the more aggressive and best units in the game. With an elite defensive line and a staff that gets the best out of its guys, the situation should give Woolen the chance he needs to return to form.

“That’s the smart play by Tariq Woolen, because if you’re not getting the type of long-term deal in free agency with the money you want. Then you go take a one-year deal with an organization where you feel like you can shine. He set himself up with Philadelphia, with a good payday, a good [one-year] contract. If he comes in and plays the way he is capable, a year from now he [could] sign a four-year $90 million contract. That’s the goal, he’s got a lot on the line, he’s got a lot of motivation. He’s in the right system, with the right coach, and I think it is going to work out well,” he said.

For Woolen, the deal is a prove-it one. A good season with the Eagles will help his value when he returns to free agency. For Philadelphia, the deal should help with what it is looking to do as well.

He should be more than good at getting to where he needs to be.
