Christopher Bell started the NASCAR Cup Series race from the pole position. The moment came after Christopher Bell took pole for NASCAR Cup Series qualifying earlier in the weekend. The Joe Gibbs Racing driver showed speed from the start. He drove the No. 20 Interstate Batteries Toyota to the lead when the green flag dropped.

Bell controlled the opening laps and stayed among the fastest cars early in the race. Denny Hamlin later moved into the lead. Bell remained close to the front during long green-flag runs. He also stayed in the mix during several pit cycles.

The early pace kept him in position as the race developed. As the race moved into the later stages, the dynamic of the field started to change.

Christopher Bell Takes Pole for the NASCAR Cup Series Race and Leads Early

The weekend began with Christopher Bell taking pole for NASCAR Cup Series qualifying. He led the opening laps before Hamlin moved ahead.

Bell stayed inside the lead group after losing the top spot. He continued to run near the front through the early part of the race. By the one-third mark, Bell had already led laps during several runs.

Bell said the car had the speed to run up front.

“I thought our Interstate Batteries Camry was plenty good at times to go out there, lead and control the race.”

The early runs helped Bell remain inside the top three. He also posted competitive lap times during the first stage.

Restarts Shape the Middle Portion of the Race

Even after Christopher Bell takes pole for NASCAR Cup Series qualifying and leads early, the race continued to shift. Bell stayed competitive during the middle stages. He remained near the leaders through several pit cycles.

One key moment came during a caution period. Bell’s crew delivered a strong pit stop. The stop allowed him to exit pit road first. That result placed him back in position to fight for the lead.

Bell said execution during restarts made a difference later in the race.

“That’s a great question. I’m not really sure what more we needed other than me doing a better job behind the wheel. I needed to win the restarts and control the race, and I just didn’t execute well enough.”

Bell also pointed to the first stage as a strong part of the race.

“Stage one was really good. I lost the start to Denny at the beginning of the race. But I was able to run him down at the end of that long run and win the stage.”

Christopher Bell Finishes Fourth After an Early Pole Run

Late in the race, several drivers gained momentum. Denny Hamlin, Chase Elliott, and William Byron moved ahead. The leaders also worked through traffic during the final laps.

Bell said the car was not as strong near the end.

“We were at our worst at the end, which was a bit of a bummer. But overall, to get out of here with two solid stages and a good finish is still a good day.”

Even though Christopher Bell took pole for NASCAR Cup Series qualifying and led early, the race ended with a fourth-place finish.

The result added important points for the Joe Gibbs Racing driver. The season is still in its early stages.

“And honestly, it feels a lot better this year than it would have under the previous system.”

Bell now sits sixth in the NASCAR Cup Series standings with 164 points.
