Clinton invites cyclists to join their celebration of America’s 250th anniversary with a 250-mile cycling challenge.
CLINTON, Iowa — Clinton invites cyclists to join their celebration of America’s 250th anniversary with a 250-mile cycling challenge.
The Riverbend Bicycle Club is organizing a special 250-mile cycling challenge to celebrate America’s 250th anniversary, inviting cyclists from anywhere.
Cyclists will join teams and collectively log miles, with the goal of each team riding at least 250 miles during the weeklong celebration from June 27 through July 4.
“We already have riders participating from places as far away as Qatar and Iowa City,” organizers said in a press release. “We want to add as many teams as possible and as many cyclists as possible. How cool would it be to have 250 teams to commemorate the 250 years.”
Currently, 12 team captains have signed up. Riders can join an existing team or create a new team. Those interested can contact Matt Parbs at mparbs@growclinton.com to register. Parbs will add you to a team or provide the team link to be a team captain.
A Fourth of July parade will be held, and all cyclists will join the community for the end ride of the challenge. Community groups in the Clinton area are also invited to participate in the parade.
The Fourth of July committee and Grow Clinton are seeking more ideas for events and commemorations to celebrate the anniversary. Residents, businesses and organizers suggestions will be added to a master list of Clinton County’s America 250 activities and shared with the state and national celebration network.
Ideas can be sent to Matt Parbs at the email provided above. Details and submission deadlines found at this website. Information on the cycling challenge can be found here.
