One man has been charged with manslaughter after an early-morning shooting in Surrey Sunday that left another man dead.
On Monday (March 15), the BC Prosecution Service approved one count of manslaughter with a firearm against Abo Abdel Kurdali, 29, in relation to the fatal shooting, which happened at about 1:40 a.m Sunday morning (March 15) in the 13900-block of Laurel Drive.
Police found a man suffering from gunshot wounds and rendered aid, and although BC Emergency Health Services paramedics arrived, the man was pronounced dead at the scene.
Kurdali remains in custody awaiting a bail hearing, an Integrated Homicide Investigation Team release issued Monday said.
Investigators believe this was an isolated incident, where the victim and the accused were known to each other.
The investigation is ongoing; however, the incident is not believed to be related to gang activity or extortion, the release noted.
“The quick response from SPS and subsequent investigative work by the team at IHIT was integral in securing this charge,” said IHIT’s Sgt. Freda Fong. “We extend our condolences to the family, friends, and loved ones of the deceased during this difficult time.”
