Beth, who did not want the Echo to publish her full name, was contemplating taking her own life when she met Danny Carter who managed to talk her down.

She is speaking out after Danny leapt into action on the evening of Thursday, July 31, pulling a teenager down the railings of the Itchen Bridge and saving her life.

The 35-year-old is in the middle of launching his own mental health support initiative Coffee Mate.

Danny said he is “just waiting for a signature on the dotted line” so he can set up his mobile coffee hub to support people like Beth and the girl he saved last week.

Beth said the support soon to be offered by volunteers at Coffee Mate is desperately needed.

“You are back to square one, stuck in your own head again as there is nowhere to go after you have spent those 30 minutes with the emergency services.”

Beth is keen to help and volunteer with Danny in the future, whether that is patrolling the bridge or making coffees in the mobile coffee shop.

The mobile unit will be set up on one side of the bridge, and moved regularly by Danny and his team.

The aim is to “keep the conversation and support” flowing for those who need it.

She said: “When I was on the Itchen Bridge, I did not think I was going to come down – I would have gone over the side.

“People listen but they do not hear me.

“I would be doing everything in my power not to be here if it wasn’t for Danny.”

“I am going to keep going until the council install the safety railings on the bridge, and until I can get my mobile unit in place.”
