Amid a lawsuit between Joe Gibbs Racing and former competition director Chris Gabehart and the inherent pressure that comes with carrying on the Gibbs family name in one of the best cars in NASCAR racing, Ty Gibbs has hit his stride over the last three weeks.

Still searching for his first career Cup Series win, the fourth-year driver has finished fourth, fourth and fifth at COTA, Phoenix and Las Vegas, respectively and has risen to 10th in the Cup Series points standings.

Ty Gibbs looks to keep momentum rolling at Darlington

Gibbs and the rest of the Cup Series field will tackle Darlington Raceway on Sunday in the sixth race of the 2026 campaign.

“Darlington’s a great track for me,” Gibbs told SiriusXM Radio on Wednesday. “We made some changes over the offseason, obviously, and I think that has really helped. We’ve all been working really great together [and] had a lot of fun this year.”

Gibbs is looking to get back to the NASCAR postseason this season after missing the playoffs in 2025. Ironically, since JGR filed a lawsuit against Gabehart, who called out Gibbs and JGR in a response, Gibbs has arguably been driving better than he ever has at any point in his career.

Another good run at Darlington on Sunday would only further prove Gibbs’ evolution as a driver as he searches for his first career checkered flag.
