She captivated Canada with a huge win in the National Bank Open final in Montreal Thursday night.

Canadian teen Victoria Mboko is a champion.

The 18-year-old from Burlington rallied back through a wrist injury to defeat four-time Grand Slam winner Naomi Osaka.

Mboko entered the tournament as a wild card, then posted a total seven wins over higher-ranked opponents, capping a fairy tale run that fans across Canada won’t soon forget.

At the end of last year, Mboko’s ranking was 350 and reached a ranking of 85 late last month.

This win puts her at number 25 in the WTA rankings ensuring her a seeded position for the upcoming Grand Slam in New York later this month.
