A person was struck by a train in Mississauga’s south end on Wednesday afternoon, police say.

Peel Regional Police didn’t reveal the extent of the injuries suffered, nor did they say if the person hit by the train was a child, teen or adult.

A large police presence remains in the area of Alexandra Avenue and Fourth Street, where the incident occurred shortly before 3 p.m., Peel police said.

Fourth Street is closed from Ogden Avenue to Alexandra Avenue while Alexandra Avenue is shut down from Fourth Street to Lakeshore Road East, according to police on the scene.

Motorists are told to avoid the area and use alternate routes. For those in the vicinity of the accident, they can expect delays, police added.
