An Independent Kerry councillor is urging men who are struggling to take the first step and talk to someone.

Cllr Jackie Healy-Rae made the plea after Minister for Mental Health Mary Butler announced €2 million in funding for new counselling and talk therapy supports specifically for men.

It aims to break down barriers to support and recognise that while men are more likely to experience serious mental health problems, they are less likely to get help.

Cllr Healy-Rae said this is about giving men a safe space to talk.
