The 2026 Canadian Football League season is fast approaching. With that in mind, teams across the league are looking ahead to next week’s combine in Edmonton and the CFL draft in April.

However, looking back on the 2025 season, you would be hard-pressed to find a better catch than the grab made by Samuel Emilus on October 10th against Toronto in a game that clinched top spot in the west for the Riders.

Emilus admits that he has looked back on that catch too.

“I watched it probably a hundred times, but I’m humble. I did the same catch in college, so that was nothing new to me. But at that moment, obviously, on the biggest stage, that was definitely something nice. I probably downplayed it when it first happened. It caught me off guard, and I’m kind of amazed with myself.”

The reception was similar to a catch that Emilus made in training camp, where he then proceeded to punt the ball into the stands to celebrate.

“I always say when the ball’s in the air, it’s either mine or nobody’s. And I really just showed that. And whenever you see me punt the ball, you know something good happened.”
