Friday marks the first day of spring but you wouldn’t know it by looking at the forecast.
Toronto is currently under a special weather statement with Environment Canada warning of a risk of freezing rain along with snow and ice pellets on Friday morning.
“There may be an impact on rush hour traffic,” the national weather agency said.
“Roads and walkways may be difficult to navigate due to accumulating snow or ice pellets. There is risk of injury due to slips and falls.”
The inclement weather is expected to stick around until early afternoon, when the precipitation will switch to rain.
“This morning we’re getting a messy mix over the GTA,” CP24 Meteorologist Bill Coulter said.
“But, warmer winds will transition the precipitation to rain over the region by midday. Showers will ease through the midafternoon.”
Toronto will see a high of 6 C on Friday and more mild weather is expected this weekend. Environment Canada is calling for cloudy skies and a high of 5 C on Saturday. Sunday will see rain and a high of 6 C.
