The Toronto Blue Jays are coming off an incredible 2025 MLB season. They not only beat the New York Yankees and made it to the World Series, but they also took the Los Angeles Dodgers to Game 7, and nearly won it all.
After such a season, it wouldn’t be a surprise if the Blue Jays were, once again, back in the postseason and making a run for a World Series title. But there’s no guarantee the Blue Jays will be back in 2026.
MLB.com’s Anthony Castrovince is predicting an awful season is in store for the Blue Jays. He’s not simply predicting the Blue Jays don’t make it to the World Series, or the ALCS, or even the ALDS; he’s predicting they miss the postseason entirely.
Blue Jays get awful prediction for 2026 MLB season
“The Blue Jays will miss the playoffs,” Castrovince predicts. “It’s unfortunately not only common for a pennant winner one year to miss the playoffs the next; it’s happened 15 times in the Wild Card era.”
Castrovince is predicting the Blue Jays will become the 16th team to make the World Series one season, and follow it up by missing the postseason the next year.
After the Texas Rangers won the 2023 World Series over the Arizona Diamondbacks, both the Rangers and Diamondbacks missed the postseason in 2024.
The Blue Jays missing the postseason in 2026 is well within the realm of possibility. Especially considering the stacked AL East.
The Yankees are running it back and could easily supplant the Blue Jays atop the division. Meanwhile, the Boston Red Sox and Baltimore Orioles have both geared up for a postseason push, with both clubs making big moves this offseason.

Toronto lost Bo Bichette, and there’s a realistic chance that Kazuma Okamoto struggles in his first MLB season. Dylan Cease, Cody Ponce, and other big additions in the pitching staff could easily struggle in 2026.
Trey Yesavage and Shane Bieber are beginning the year with lingering injuries, making the starting rotation a bit of a question mark to begin the year.
If Vladimir Guerrero Jr. or George Springer struggles for any period of time this upcoming season, the Blue Jays offense could be in dire straits.
It’s hard to imagine the Blue Jays, a dominant team from a year ago, missing the postseason in 2026. But, Castrovince is boldly predicting that such a situation will happen this year, as the AL Pennant winners from 2025 miss the postseason one year later.
