Across Canada today, nearly two million Muslims are coming together to celebrate the joyous occasion of Eid al-Fitr, marking the end of Ramadan, a month of fasting, reflection, and gratitude.
Here in Montreal, Hilm and the Canadian Youth Development Centre organized an Eid prayer for community members and their families at Olympia reception halls in Dollard-des-Ormeaux in the West Island of Montreal, on Friday.
“I love everything about Eid. I love the gatherings, the sweets, the money, just showing the love and the sense of celebration after the month of fasting,” said Shuaa Basalom, who was present for the Eid celebration.
Kids who were also at the reception said their favorite part of Eid was dessert and presents.
One said, “For me, it’s seeing my family, everyone, and getting together where it’s calm and peaceful.”
Another said they were most looking forward to “hanging out with my cousins and doing a sleepover, it’s like a tradition. My aunt’s dinner party.”
