If you’re on the hunt for a new spot to enjoy a comforting meal in Toronto, look no further. A family-run Montreal restaurant has expanded to Ontario with the opening of its first Toronto diner.
This March, Spano’s Diner unveiled its new location in the city at 1 Hafis Rd. in North York.
Known in Montreal as Pizza Spano, the restaurant has been around for four decades. And the Toronto opening marks the second ever Spano’s location.
“For 40 years, our family has served Quebec,” according to the team.
“Now — for the first time — we’re bringing it to Toronto.”
On the menu, visitors will find traditional pizzas made with hand-tossed dough, freshly cooked subs, souvlaki, comforting pasta dishes, flame-grilled burgers, Montreal smoked meats, and plant-based alternatives. Spano’s is also known for its big portions and loaded toppings.
Following the grand opening on March 6, the restaurant is now open for both dine in and take out and is also available on delivery services including Uber Eats, DoorDash and SkipTheDishes.
But if you will be enjoying your meal inside of the restaurant, expect true diner vibes with red booths and memorabilia plastered on the walls.
“As a family business, we believe in creating a warm and welcoming atmosphere where everyone feels at home,” according to the team.
If you’re looking for other new restaurants aside from Spano’s Diner, Canadian-cult favourite chicken brand from British Columbia also launched its first Toronto location this week.
DL Chicken, which first opened in Vancouver in 2018, has now brought its celebrated Nashville hot chicken concept to 538 Manning Ave. at Harbord St.
The restaurant was founded by Toronto native Doug Stephen, who built a career in the city’s restaurant scene before relocating to Vancouver.
“With its Toronto opening, Stephen brings the concept back to his hometown in a full-circle moment for the brand,” according to the team, which opened its doors in the city on March 20.
