With one out in the bottom of the ninth and the game tied 1-1, Joey Wiemer blasted the game-winning two-run shot 358 feet to left field to give the Nationals the win.
The Washington Nationals went scoreless through the first seven innings against the New York Mets but scored three runs in the final two frames to rally to a 3-1 win. The Nationals now climb to 14-9-3 in Spring Training.

Cade Cavalli made the start at the mound for the Nationals. The 27-year-old right-handed pitcher was named the Nationals’ Opening Day Pitcher. He pitched five innings and allowed three hits and zero runs. Cavalli will end his Spring Training, pitching 14.0 innings with four hits and zero runs allowed.
The Nationals’ bats, which have gone cold of late, once again struggled to get going early. Mets’ pitcher Joander Suarez started and pitched four innings, where the Nationals only recorded one hit and a walk.

The Nationals’ pitching staff held its own, limiting the Mets to only one run coming in the eighth inning, to a Mark Vientos home run.
Relief pitchers P.J. Poulin, Clayton Beeter and Andre Granillo all recorded scoreless innings on top of Cavalli’s dominant start. Granillo finished the game with the win and the save after closing the top of the ninth scoreless.
Poulin finished his inning by striking out all three batters. The 29-year-old left-handed pitcher has pitched 6.2 innings through Spring Training and has allowed only one hit and zero runs.

Right-handed pitcher Gus Varland allowed the Nationals’ lone run in the eighth inning.
Nasim Nuñez had a good showing offensively, going 1-for-2 from the plate with a walk. Nuñez has been a great defensive infielder, but has struggled offensively throughout his young career. After finishing 82 major league at-bats with only eight walks and a .297 OBP in 2025, he leads the Nationals with 10 walks in 32 at-bats in spring training, which has helped bolster his OBP to 0.419.

22-year-old SS prospect Seaver King has continued a good offensive Spring Training showing, knocking down another hit. He is batting .368 in his 11 appearances.
The Nationals will now leave Florida and will play their last two Spring Training bouts in a home-and-home against the Baltimore Orioles. They are back in action on March 22nd at 1:35 p.m. at Camden Yards. Washington also returns back to the DMV in third in the Grapefruit League with a 14-9-3 overall record.
