Winnipeg police say a 28-year-old man has been charged for allegedly assaulting a woman on Thursday.
WPS says they received a report indicating that around 7:45 a.m. on March 19, a woman was crossing Ross Avenue on Sherbrook Street when an unknown man allegedly punched her without warning.
The man then fled on foot, while the woman went to a hospital for a minor injury. Police do believe the incident was random as neither the man nor the woman knew eachother prior to the incident.
Through an investigation, police were able to identify a man believed to be involved and issued a warrant for his arrest, before he was taken into custody on March 21, near Stanley Street and Logan Avenue, after trying to flee from police.
Since, 28-year-old Rudy Wayne Elliott has been charged with assault and failing to comply with conditions of a release order.
