“It is an unusual arrangement to have, like the CEO of the label, producing the record,” songwriter Barry Johnson recently told Exclaim! of the band’s new album, I Used to Go to This Bar, which was produced by Epitaph founder and Bad Religion guitarist Brett Gurewitz. “But Brett’s worked on basically every record we’ve done… He’s listening to demos, listening to mixes, and giving suggestions… It’s a great situation for us to be in.” While he may not picture his band having had an overnight “Turnstile situation” of their own, you won’t want to miss them creating their own unique Joyce Manor moment at the Danforth.
