Mexico vs. USA – Amateur Boxing, Two Nations, One Dream
The Mexico vs. USA amateur boxing event in Douglas, Arizona, was a resounding success, bringing together athletes, fans, and communities from both sides of the border in an extraordinary display of sportsmanship and unity.
This event was made possible thanks to the leadership and support of Mayor José Grijalva and the City of Douglas team, as well as the backing of U.S. Senator Rubén Gallego, whose dedication to youth, sports, and binational collaboration continues to generate a significant impact.
The competition featured thrilling and highly competitive bouts, all officially sanctioned by USA Boxing in collaboration with the World Boxing Council.
A particularly moving moment was a two-round exhibition featuring a child with special needs, who fulfilled his dream of making a professional-style ring walk—an inspiring reminder of the inclusive spirit of boxing, firmly supported by the WBC.
Special thanks to WBC President Mauricio Sulaimán, WBC Interim Champion Jesús “El Mono” Ramos, and WBC announcer Ray Mancera for bringing energy, professionalism, and inspiration to an unforgettable day.
This event also generated a significant economic impact for the city of Douglas, providing it with greater visibility in both the United States and Mexico. The three local hotels were at full capacity, and restaurants saw a notable increase in business, thanks to visitors from Las Vegas, Phoenix, and Tucson, as well as from Mexico: Agua Prieta, Cananea, both Nogales, and Hermosillo.
Altogether, this event reaffirmed the power of amateur boxing to unite communities and create opportunities for the next generation of champions.
