OTTAWA – Ottawa police say a school crossing guard has died after he was struck by a vehicle that fled the scene on Monday.
Police say the man in his 50s was struck while on duty near an elementary school on Cedarview Road at Kennevale Drive in the city’s Barrhaven neighbourhood.
The crossing guard was taken to a hospital and later died from his injuries.

Police say the driver fled the scene.
Investigators are looking for a dark-coloured Ford F-150 believed to be involved in the hit-and-run.
Anyone who witnessed the collision or may have dashcam footage of the incident is urged to come forward.
Ottawa Mayor Mark Sutcliffe called the crossing guard’s death “absolutely heartbreaking.”
“It’s completely unacceptable that this should happen to someone who was trying to keep children safe,” the mayor wrote in a social media post.
“What a terrible loss for our community.”
