Everyone knows we had a tougher winter than usual this year and it had a very noticeable effect on local hospitals.

President and CEO of Quinte Health Stacey Daub told the board of directors on Tuesday that in January, medicine patient volumes, mainly due to respiratory illness, averaged 251, well over 198, the number of beds funded by the provincial government.

Daub says the medical staff is already planning for the next winter season and the situation is improving.

Daub adds the level of coordination among various community healthcare providers has never been so good and planning for improvements is ongoing.
