The Calgary Police Service responded to 301 collisions on Wednesday between 12 a.m. and 4 p.m. after an unexpected snowstorm caught much of the city off guard.

Of those incidents, 227 were non-injury collisions and 36 were non-injury hit and runs.

Another 37 collisions resulted in injuries, as well as one hit-and-run injury.

Environment Canada had forecast only flurries, but a heavier-than-expected snowstorm moved through, blanketing much of the city’s north end.
